Taillon Signs Four-Year Deal with Cubs
Chicago Bolsters Rotation with Free Agent Pitcher
$68 Million Contract Announced Tuesday Night
CHICAGO (December 20, 2022) - The Chicago Cubs announced Tuesday night that they have signed free agent pitcher Jameson Taillon to a four-year, $68 million contract. The move bolsters the Cubs' starting rotation ahead of the 2023 season.
Taillon, 30, spent the previous two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 3.29 ERA and 1,001 strikeouts in 211 innings pitched. He also represented the Pirates in the 2021 All-Star Game.
The addition of Taillon gives the Cubs a solid rotation alongside All-Star Kyle Hendricks and former Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta. The Cubs are hoping to improve upon their 74-88 record from last season and contend for a postseason berth.
