Former Mississippi State head football coach Zach Arnett has accepted an analyst role with the Ole Miss Rebels, as confirmed by Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin on Wednesday. Arnett was fired by the Bulldogs last season after just under a full year on the job.
Arnett, 36, was named interim head coach in December 2022 following the tragic passing of Mike Leach. He led the Bulldogs to a bowl victory over Illinois to finish off the 2022 season and was named head coach going forward into 2023.
However, Arnett's tenure as head coach was short-lived. The Bulldogs struggled under his leadership, finishing the 2023 season with a disappointing 5-6 record.
Arnett's firing came as a surprise to many, as he had been a key figure in Mississippi State's program for several years. He served as the team's defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2022 before being promoted to head coach.
In his new role at Ole Miss, Arnett will work alongside Kiffin and the rest of the Rebels' coaching staff. He will be tasked with providing analysis and support on both offense and defense.
Arnett's hiring is the latest in a series of moves by Ole Miss to strengthen its coaching staff. The Rebels have also hired former Mississippi State coach Judge Hill as an analyst this offseason.
Arnett's addition to the Ole Miss staff is expected to benefit the Rebels in a number of ways. His experience as a defensive coordinator will be a valuable asset to Ole Miss's defense, which has struggled in recent years.
